Choose the production method around the project

CD replication and CD-R duplication are different processes. Replication manufactures discs from a production master; duplication records the programme onto recordable discs. Quantity, timing and the intended release help determine the appropriate method.

Tell us how the edition will be used: commercial release, promotion, tour sales or a collector’s set. We clarify the proposed process and specification in the quote.

The packaging sets the tone

  • Digipack: a printed card package with a disc tray, with panel and booklet options to agree.
  • Digisleeve: a card sleeve with the disc held in a pocket, for a more compact presentation.
  • Jewel case: a plastic case with printed inserts and a booklet, with the exact components specified.

Paper, print finishes, panel count and booklet length all affect the result and budget. Ask for the correct templates before designing the sleeve.

Audio and artwork: two approvals

Supply the audio in the format requested for your production method. Confirm track sequence, titles and any metadata with the release team. Do not treat a reference listening file as the final manufacturing master.

Artwork needs its own checks: dimensions, bleed, safe areas, spine, credits, disc label and barcode if required. Review the proof as a complete object, including the back and inner panels, before approval.

Budget the complete edition

Include discs, printing, packaging, booklet, assembly and delivery. Additional finishes and a more complex pack can change the quote significantly. Compare the same quantity and specification when reviewing proposals.

Minimum quantities, samples and lead times are confirmed for the selected process. Build the calendar backwards from stock arrival, with time for corrections and approvals. Avoid using the public release date as the only production milestone.

Questions, answered.

Can you advise on replication or duplication?

Yes. Share the quantity, release purpose and timing so we can assess the appropriate process and quote it clearly.

Is a booklet always included?

No. The packaging, page count and booklet are specified in your quote. Confirm the design before preparing artwork.

Can the CD be part of a merch bundle?

Yes. We can study the CD, other products, packaging and assembly as one project, with the manufacturing conditions confirmed for each component.
