Choose the format around the release

Consider programme length, audience, sales channels and presentation. Vinyl, replicated CD and duplicated CD-R have different manufacturing processes and constraints. Start by explaining the project before choosing the process.

A collector’s box may bring several products together. Plan the record and the other components separately, then include final assembly.

Compare the full specification

  • Disc format, quantity and production method.
  • Audio preparation and any test or approval stages.
  • Sleeve or case, booklet, inserts and print finishes.
  • Assembly, packing and shipping.
  • Required stock arrival date and delivery destination.

Two quotes are comparable only when they cover the same specification. A unit price without packaging and freight can hide a meaningful part of the budget.

Prepare audio and artwork separately

Ask for the audio requirements and the correct print templates. Confirm track order, side allocation where relevant, credits and barcode requirements with the release team. Keep one approved version of each file.

The artwork proof checks the visual design. Audio approval is a separate step. Assign a person who can make the final decision for each.

Work backwards from delivery

The public release date is not the same as the stock delivery deadline. Include time for file checks, corrections, proofs, manufacturing, assembly and transport. Confirm the schedule with the production team before announcing availability.

Minimum quantities and lead times depend on the format and current production conditions. A late artwork change may affect more than the design stage.

Send a useful brief

Share your format ideas, quantities, audio duration, packaging direction, file readiness and preferred delivery date. A budget helps prioritise options. Merchly can connect physical music production with the wider artist collection.

Prepare my release quote

Questions, answered.

Can we choose packaging before the audio is final?

You can explore the direction, but confirm the format and programme requirements before finalising production templates and quantities.

Does a quote reserve a production slot?

Do not assume so. Ask what approvals, payment or booking conditions are required to confirm the schedule.
