Prepare your vinyl master and artwork files

Confirm the production specification first

Agree the format, speed, programme, side allocation and packaging before finalising files. Ask for the production requirements and exact print templates. A template for another sleeve or pressing format may not fit your project.

Record the approved specification in one place so the engineer, designer and production team are working from the same brief.

Organise the audio master

• Use the audio format requested by the production team.
• Confirm track sequence, side names and durations.
• Discuss vinyl-specific preparation with the audio engineer.
• Name files clearly and identify the final approved version.
• Supply the programme information requested for production.

A streaming file is not automatically a suitable vinyl manufacturing master. Follow the requirements of the chosen process.

Prepare the printed elements

Check outer sleeve, spine, inner sleeve, centre labels and any insert. Use the supplied templates, including bleed and safe areas. Confirm credits, spelling, track listing and barcode requirements with the release team.

Pay attention to small text and the orientation of artwork across folds and panels. A flat screen image does not show every detail of an assembled sleeve.

Separate visual and audio approvals

The artwork proof checks the printed design. A test pressing, when part of the agreed process, checks the audio. Neither replaces the other. Name the approver for each and allow time for review in the schedule.

Document approval clearly before production proceeds. Late changes may affect cost and timing, so clarify the process before requesting them.

Send a complete handover

Include the final files, specification, contact for questions and required delivery date. Avoid sharing several competing “final” versions. The Studio can help coordinate the vinyl edition with its packaging and associated merch.
